Saint-Christophe-les-Gorges was the seat of an important castellany known as the barony of Saint-Christophe. The castellany of Saint-Christophe was therefore very important and extended over the parishes of Saint-Christophe, Sainte-Eulalie, Saint-Martin-Cantalès, Loupiac, Barriac and Pleaux. All that remains of the village's two castles is the chapel of the lower castle, where pilgrims venerate the Black Madonna and Child.
