Waterfall of Salins
Description
Without doubt the waterfall of Salins is the best known in the Haute Auvergne. Standing out in front of an ancient railway viaduct, and nestled between forests and volcanic rocks, this waterfall projects the river Auze some 30 metres down.
The scenic footpath follows basalt columns and takes you behind the waterfall as you gently get splashed by the water spray ; the sound is deafening, and you reach the “Fontaine des Druides” in the rock, whose water was supposed to cure skin complaints, such as ringworm. Further on a suspended footbridge takes you to the other side of the river to meet the tributary Le Monzola.
