Saint-Illide

The village of St-Illide is located at an altitude of 625m. At the 1999 census, the municipality had a population of some 670, often referred to as ‘Saint-Illidois’ or ‘Miraliers’, the district covers 39.71km². Bordered by several rivers, the Saint-Illide plateau marks the transition between the volcanic mountains to the east and the old crystalline plateaux of the Limousin to the west. Pleaux

At the very beginning of the Christianity (in the 6th and 7th centuries) in the Upper Auvergne, the city grew around the original Saint John the Bapstist church (nowadays destroyed). We found again the importance of this church into the development of Pleaux in the etymology of the name itself. “Plebes” means in latin a baptismal church.
