Tourniac
Description
7 kilometres from Pleaux, we come to the village of Tourniac.
The commune has a population of 128, divided between the main village and a number of hamlets.
The church, dedicated to Saint Victor, dates from the Romanesque period.
It has a beautiful white marble altar.
At the far end of the cemetery is a stone cross dating from the 12th or 13th century, "probably the most interesting and oldest in the Cantal" (Pierre Moulier).
From Tourniac, a picturesque little road leads down to the banks of the Dordogne at ‘La Ferrière’. The ‘la Ferrière’ site has signposted walks crossing the Miers Estate forest with its "Pestre" forest house.
In the 19th century, Tourniac used the Dordogne river and its barges to ship timber from the Miers forest to Bordeaux.
Today, the town's main activity is agriculture.
